The whole system is usable on iPhone and Android — plan, generate, stand the watch, write the log. The desk app is not required. The desk is convenience: a wide screen in the marina, plus the extra statistics — fairness, rest hours, sleep debt, system comparison — when you want them laid out. Same file, nothing extra to buy.

Why a desk app at all

You do not need it. Building a ten-day rota, scoring fairness, comparing systems and standing the watch all work on the phones. The desk is for skippers who want the extra: the whole grid without pinching, the fairness and rest-hours numbers next to it, two systems compared on a wide screen in the week before an Atlantic. Convenience and statistics, not a missing half of the product.

Same skipper, same crew list, same Swedish or four-on-four-off or custom shape — just room to see the numbers. The watch itself is still a phone job.

Same engine as the phones

This is not a different product. The desk uses the same rota solver, the same watch systems, the same fairness numbers and the same passage file as the sailing watch app. If you generate Swedish on the desk, the phones stand Swedish. Clock changes, seasick spans and custom lengths come with the file.

You can also print the grid and the per-person cards from the desk, which is the honest backup when somebody will not install anything.

How it gets to the crew

Show a code. They scan it in the iPhone or Android app, pick their name, and their phone holds the rota. Nothing about the crew is uploaded. The desk is another device in the saloon, not a server.

The desk’s job is a wide screen and the numbers, not standing the 03:40 watch.

What it does not do

It does not replace the phones. The desk app in a bunk does not sound through Silent and Do Not Disturb. It does not sit on deck as the live board. Those jobs — and planning, if you never open the desk app — stay on the mobiles, which is the point of the extra: use the wide screen where it helps, then get out of the way.

What it costs

Nothing extra. Every passage, export and desk tool is free. Optional support is available on the phones now, and from the desk when web payments ship — it never changes either surface.
